My husband(Mark) and I had the honor of meeting Fr. Alphonse T. Mascherino (founder of the "Flight 93
Memorial Chapel") and spent several hours in the chapel and outside of the chapel talking to him. We were
shown what the chapel looked like when he purchased it and seeing what the chapel has become from his
dedication and of those who volunteered to help him have the chapel redone by the 1st anniversary of 9*1*1.
It is amazing how much work was done in a very short period of time. The up keep of the chapel memorial is
all done by volunteers (some close by and some that travel a distance). The chapel is beautiful inside and in
the back of the chapel is a very beautiful "Heroes Garden" with flowers, plants, and monuments). In front of
the entrance to the chapel is a tower with a bell. The bell is named "Thunder Bell". Thunder Bell is the Voice
of Flight 93 and all are invited to sound the Voice of Flight 93. All who sound the Voice of Flight 93 give
honor to their memory. It is said that you can hear the bell at the Flight 93 crash site which is what
Fr. Alphonse T. Mascherino wanted. Also in front of the chapel is a "Memorial Torch Of Liberty". A Beacon
light that shines at Shanksville for Heroes and for all those who have sacrificed and dedicate their lives to
Liberty and Freedom.
There is so much to see that I could list here but no words can describe the beauty of this chapel dedicated to
